The 2018 Buchdahl Lecture on Science, Technology & Human Values will be Friday March 16 at 5:30pm in Hunt Library. Reception will follow.

This year’s speakers are Carl Bergstrom and Jevin West, creators of the wildly popular course and website, Calling Bull: Data Reasoning in a Digital World.

Dismayed by the prevalence of lies in public discourse, and particularly by the use of “big data and fancy algorithms” to sell ideas, products, and political candidates, biologist Carl Bergstrom and information scientist Jevin West produced an open and online course, which they first taught last year. Their goal: “To teach you how to think critically about the data and models that constitute evidence in the social and natural sciences.”

Join students, faculty and staff from every part of the university and beyond for this exciting public lecture and discussion Friday March 16 at 5:30pm in Duke Energy Hall, James B. Hunt Library.
